Introduction to the Elk Monument: The Elk Monument rests in the 39 elk that returned to the motherland in 1986. Today, the 2,360 Dafeng elk are all their descendants. On the east and west ends of the monument are sculptures of a bird, the egret, which lives with the elk and feeds on the egret's external parasite Haemaphysalis longicornis. Six "Requiems" are engraved on the walls of the tombstones. The format is in the form of British sonnets, indicating that they spent their childhood in England; they follow the ancient Chinese writing method from right to left and from top to bottom. Writing shows that it is a unique species in China, and now it has returned to the embrace of the motherland.
