Introduction to the Cathedral and Cathedral Square: Cathedral Square (PLAZA DE LA CATEDRAL) is named after the Cathedral of San Cristobal (CATEDRAL DE SAN CRISTOBAL DE LA HAVANA). San Cristóbal Cathedral, built in 1748, is the oldest cathedral in Cuba and the most beautiful church in Havana. It combines European Baroque and American architectural styles and is known as music set in stone. The statues in the church are quite exquisite, and the bronze bell on the north tower was cast in Spain in 1698.
