Introduction to Marseille Cathedral: Marseille Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral, a historical monument in France, and was designated a pontifical basilica in 1896. The church was built from 1852 to 1896 in Byzantine-Romanesque style. Most of the old cathedral (Vieille Major) has been demolished, and the remaining part stands aside, dwarfed by the new cathedral.
