Introduction to sutra debate: Sutra debate is the biggest feature of Buddhism in the three major monasteries in Tibet. The debaters are appointed by outstanding monks. The methods vary from temple to monastery, and can be mainly divided into two forms: confrontational debate and sectarian debate. Debate is a study course for debating Buddhist teachings according to the logical reasoning method of the Yinmingxue system. In Tibetan, it is called "Cunni Zuoba", which means "Dharma". It is the only way for Tibetan Buddhist lamas to study sutras. It is usually carried out in open areas in temples and under the shade of trees. It originated from the public debate between Mahayana monks and Karmapa Sila during the Trisong Detsen period.
