Introduction to the ruins of Pengtai Academy: In front of Wenchang Pavilion, there is the ruins of Penghu Academy. The door plaque was inscribed by Shen Shouqian. In the twelfth year of Guangxu's reign (1886), Shen Shouchian, the magistrate of Taiwan, purchased private land and moved the "Yinxin Academy" originally located in the Luzu Temple on Kaishan Road to the north end of Chikan Tower to rebuild it and renamed it "Penghu Academy". The original buildings of the academy included the foyer, lecture hall, Wenchang Pavilion and Wuzi Temple. It was the largest academy in Fucheng, and together with Haidong and Chongwen academies, it was known as the "three major academies in Fucheng". In the 1906 Tainan earthquake, the lecture hall was destroyed, and the Wuzi Temple was also destroyed by a typhoon. Only the southern Fujian architectural style foyer that we can see today is left. This is the only remaining relic of the academy built in the Qing Dynasty in Tainan City.
