Introduction to Gu Zhutong’s former residence: No. 109 Wukang Road, the former residence of Gu Zhutong, a senior general and commander-in-chief of the Army of the Republic of China. In 1946, he was appointed commander-in-chief of the army by Chiang Kai-shek and was responsible for commanding the attack on the Shandong Liberated Area. However, Gu Zhutong suffered a disastrous defeat. The most elite 74th Division of the "National Army" (Commander Zhang Lingfu) was completely wiped out. Gu was promoted to Chief of Staff in 1948, and suffered two major defeats in the Liaoshen and Huaihai campaigns. In 1950, he retreated to Taiwan with the Kuomintang.
