Introduction to Lingxing Gate: The main entrance of Nanyue Temple is called Lingxing Gate. Lingxing was originally called Tiantian Star. It is one of the twenty-eight stars in the sky and is responsible for the prosperity of the country. Emperor Gaozu of the Han Dynasty ordered that sacrifices be made to heaven before sacrifices to spiritual stars, hence the name. It is also said that Lingxingmen refers to Tianmen. To use the "Ling star" to crown a temple gate, three conditions must be met: first, it is a large-scale and magnificent temple; second, it is a place where talents and elites gather; third, it must be an edict issued by the emperor. Nanyue Temple met the above three conditions to receive this supreme honor. In China, only a few places use Ling stars to designate temple doors, such as Shandong Confucius Temple and Nanyue Temple. The door is 20 meters high and 20 meters wide, and 1.1 meters thick. On the door is the word "Yue Miao" written by Kang Hesheng, a scholar from Hengshan in the late Qing Dynasty who was known as "Jiangnan's Pen". Below it is "Lingxing Gate". The three characters were originally written by Cao Bowen, but are now written by the famous calligrapher Zhou Zhaoyi. In front of the door, there are two simple, elegant and lifelike stone lions, squatting here all year round, welcoming guests from all over the world to enter this auspicious door.
