Introduction to the portrait of Zhang Zizhong: Zhang Zizhong (1891-1940), courtesy name Xinchen, was born in Linqing, Shandong. In May 1940, he also served as the commander-in-chief of the right-wing corps of the fifth theater. At this time, the Japanese army concentrated 300,000 heavy troops to attack Xiangfan from Suixian (now Suizhou, Hubei), Zhongxiang, and Xinyang. Zhang Zizhong personally led three regiments from Yicheng to the north, crossed the Han River, and intercepted the Japanese army in Zaoyang. They fought for nine days and nights and fell into a tight siege by the Japanese army during the pursuit. On May 16, he retreated to Yicheng Pumpkin Shop and persisted in commanding the operation amidst fierce Japanese artillery fire. At 4 p.m., Zhang Zizhong suffered eight serious injuries and died for his country. Aged 50. On May 28, the Chongqing National Government held a grand funeral and posthumously promoted him to general. On August 15, people from all walks of life in Yan'an held a memorial meeting, and Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Zhu De respectively sent their condolences.
