Hadrian's Villa (English: Hadrian's Villa, Italian: Villa Adriana) is a large-scale villa palace built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in Tivoli, a suburb of Rome, in the 2nd century AD. The entire villa covers an area of about 18 square kilometers. The Roman Emperor Hadrian was born in 76 AD. He was an emperor with high attainments in poetry, mathematics, architecture and painting. It is said that this genius Roman emperor had two biggest hobbies in his life: one was traveling, and the other was architecture. During his reign, Hadrian completed a series of construction projects such as the Pantheon, the Temple of Venus and the Temple of Rome. Now, except for the Pantheon, the other two buildings have been destroyed. The Hadrian Villa he built for himself is also an architectural masterpiece. Hadrian gathered all the garden styles he liked from various places during his travels and created a beautiful Garden of Eden for himself through re-creation.
Hadrian's Villa is about 5 kilometers long and covers an irregular area. The buildings include palace , Temple ,theater, library , Baths and gardens. After the decline of the Roman Empire, the villa fell into disrepair, and the cultural relics and architectural purposes were gradually forgotten; during the Renaissance, Italy was full of antiquity, and northern nobles came to Rome to appreciate its past glory. Cultural relics were plundered continuously, and Hadrian's Villa was greatly damaged; in the 1870s, people began to systematically excavate Hadrian's Villa for the first time using scientific archaeological methods. The Italian government purchased nearly half of the property here from a descendant of a nobleman, and this great project of the past was protected by the government; in 1999, the ruins of Hadrian's Villa were listed as a World Cultural Heritage by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
