Scenic spot introduction:
The Nyetang Temple in Lhasa is a simple and neat Buddhist temple on the way from Gonggar Airport to Lhasa. It is not large in scale, but it is very important for the spread of Buddhism in Tibet. Nyetang Temple is also known as the "Nyetang Zhuoma Lakang Tara Temple". In the 11th century AD, Tibet had just experienced anti-Buddhist activities and turmoil, and the spread of Buddhism was greatly affected. In 1046 AD, Atisha, a famous patriarch of the later period of Tibetan Buddhism, was invited to Nyetang by his disciples Zhongdunba and others. He accepted disciples and taught the Dharma here for nine years and passed away here in 1054. The disciples specially built the Nyetang Temple to enshrine the statue of the Tara worshipped by Master Atisha. The nearby pagoda buried some of the bones of Master Atisha. Nyetang Temple has been established for nearly a thousand years. The site is prosperous and there are endless pilgrims, including believers and pilgrims from Atisha's hometown of Bangladesh.
