Zhangmu in Tibet, formerly known as "Tajue Gabu", means "nearby port" in Tibetan. It is an important branch extension of the Ancient Tea-Horse Road. Zhangmu is located on the slope of the valley at the southern foot of the middle section of the Himalayas on the Sino-Nepal border, 2,300 meters above sea level. It is a small town built on the mountain. The surrounding natural environment is very beautiful, with modern buildings and some ancient wooden houses scattered alternately on both sides of the road winding down the mountain. 1. To go to Zhangmu, both foreign and domestic tourists are required to apply for a border management area pass or passport. Domestic tourists can apply for a border management area pass at the public security bureau in their area or after arriving in Tibet.
2. Camphor wood can be exchanged for Nepalese rupees, and the exchange rate is even higher than that in Kathmandu.

How to get there:
There are no long-distance buses in Zhangmu Town, but there are many trucks going to Lhasa and Shigatse. Most tourists who come to Zhangmu come by chartering a car or hitchhiking. In addition, some cars that send foreign tourists out of the town will return empty, so it is relatively easy to hitchhike. The cost of chartering a car from Lhasa to Zhangmu is 300-400 yuan.
