Mr. Guo Fengyuan (1922-2003) was born in Chaoyang in 1922 to a poor Chinese family in Thailand. He worked overseas for more than 70 years and achieved outstanding results. However, he regarded "abandoning desires, keeping quiet, and helping others" as his life motto. He was enthusiastic about public welfare and was deeply respected by the Thai royal family and the common people. In 1988, when the King of Thailand decided to grant him a piece of royal land to build a villa, he discussed with the King of Thailand to build a Chinese cultural relics museum for the great unity of the Chinese people, advocating world peace and the idea that Chinese people all over the world are one family. He was praised by the King of Thailand and was named "Tanfuyuan". The first Tanfuyuan was built in Thailand in 1993. With a sincere heart of patriotism and love for his hometown, Mr. Guo decided to build a Tanfuyuan in his hometown. On August 10, 1995, he personally went to Chaoshan to select a site. With the response and donations of many Chaoshan people at home and abroad, he raised 120 million yuan to make the construction of Chaozhou Tanfuyuan a success. After the completion of the Tanfu Temple, Mr. Guo transported some cultural relics from Thailand back to his motherland, making Chinese culture shine brightly in his hometown.
