Introduction to the Vardar River: The Vardar River (Vardar) originates from the eastern slope of the Sal Mountain on the border of Macedonia and Albania. It is the main watershed that passes through the capital city. It is one of the transportation channels between the north and the south of the Balkan Peninsula. The upper reaches are fast-flowing and rich in hydraulic power; the middle reaches of the valley are rich in cotton, rice, grapes and vegetables.
