Introduction to the Columbus Monument: The Columbus Monument (Monument a Colom) is located at the southeast end of La Rambla. It is the place where Columbus returned to Spain after his first voyage to America. The memorial tower was built in 1888 for the Universal Exhibition and is 60 meters high. At the top stands a statue of the high-spirited Christopher Columbus, the adventurous explorer who opened up maritime hegemony for Spain.
