Introduction to the Islands: The Azores (full name in Portuguese: Arquipelago Dos Acores, English: Azores) was discovered by Portuguese navigators in the 15th century. It belongs to the volcanic archipelago in the central and eastern part of the North Atlantic and is a Portuguese overseas territory. According to legend, an angel dropped a flower from the sky, and nine petals fell one after another, turning it into a beautiful home for the islanders.
