Introduction to Cape Soya: The northernmost border cape on the main island of Hokkaido, Japan, is far across the Soya Strait from Cape Creleon, the southernmost tip of Sakhalin Island (Sakhalin) in Russia. In some inland areas, there is a large chain of hills with an altitude of 20 to 30 meters forming a dendritic hilly area, called the "Zongya Hills". It was the place where the glaciers retreated northward before the end of the last ice age more than 10,000 years ago. Formed by years of excavation, this area is a very rare glacial terrain in Japan.
