Introduction to Wengcheng: The Tang and Song Dynasty East Gate of Yangzhou was built in the mid-Tang Dynasty. City gates and walls were repaired here in the Five Dynasties, Song Dynasty, Ming and Qing dynasties, covering an area of about 16 square kilometers. In three archaeological excavations since 2000, it was discovered that the overlapping relationship between the city gate remains from the Tang, Five Dynasties, Northern Song Dynasty and Southern Song Dynasties was clear, and the city wall was about 15-20 meters thick. The city gate is 6.07 meters wide. According to relevant records in the Song Dynasty's "Zhuo Fa Shi" and combined with previous archaeological drilling findings, it is estimated that the city wall is about 10 meters high. In 2009, the city wall and the gate tower on the top of the mountain were rebuilt with reference to the Song Dynasty's "Building Methods" to recreate the majestic appearance of Yangzhou in the Song Dynasty, which "overwhelms the Changhuai River in magnificence and surpasses the southeast in form".
