Introduction to Valley Temple: Located at the southern foot of Huixian Mountain (Beishan) in Bailong Park, it is an ancestral hall dedicated to Huang Tingjian, a famous writer, calligrapher and poet in the Northern Song Dynasty.
Huang Tingjian, courtesy name Luzhi, also known as Valley Taoist, was also known as Huangshan Valley. He was a Jinshi at the age of 23 and was a famous writer, calligrapher and poet in the Northern Song Dynasty. He came from the sect of Su Shi, and is as famous as Su Shi. He is known as "Su Huang" in the world. Together with Qin Guan, Chao Buzhi and Zhang Lai, he is known as the "Four Scholars of the Su School". His calligraphy, together with Su Shi, Mi Fu and Cai Xiang, is known as the "Four Scholars of the Song Dynasty". ". He once served as professor of the Imperial College, school secretary, editor of the National History Museum, and reviewer of Shenzong's records. Because he was hated by the powerful officials of the dynasty, he was demoted to Yishan (i.e. Yizhou) for custody in the third year of Chongning (1104). During the more than a year he lived in Yishan, he not only cared about farmers' production, but also cared about the sufferings of the people. He treated people and found medicines, wrote for people who wanted to write, and taught knowledge to people who wanted to know. He died of illness on September 30th of the following year (when he was 60 years old) and lived in the building of Xulou in "Xiaonanmen", Yishan.
The current temple is an ancient-style building with double eaves and overhanging corners, and glazed tiles. A self-portrait tablet of Mr. Valley is embedded on the central wall of the temple, and more than 30 calligraphy and paintings are displayed, reflecting the historical facts of Mr. Valley’s life during his detention in Yishan. Behind the temple is Mr. Valley’s tomb in clothes.
