Introduction to the Mausoleum of Mausolus: The Mausoleum of Mausolus is divided into four floors, with a six-level base. It is built with white marble shipped from Greece. The bottom is rectangular. The building is surrounded by a 20-meter-high pier wall. Surrounded by statues of warriors riding on their backs, there are 36 12-meter-high gold-white marble columns built in the Ionic style above the pedestal. Between the columns, there are figures of male gods and goddesses. The statue is decorated with a wheel placed above the column; above it is an extremely tilted 7-meter-high pyramid, the top of the tower is decorated with a gilded bronze horse chariot; and inside the tomb stand King Mausoros and Queen Artemia marble statue. The sculptures of the Mausoleum of Mausolus were made by four famous sculptors: Bryaxis, Leochares, Scopas, and Timotheus. Halicarnassus was invaded in the early 15th century, and the new ruler used some of the stones from the mausoleum as building materials in order to build a huge castle. Many sculptures still survive today and are stored in museums in London, England. The tomb site is located in present-day Halicarnassus, in the southwest of Turkey.
