Shanghai Longhua Temple Travel Guide

Scenic spot introduction:

Longhua Temple is the oldest and largest ancient temple in Shanghai. It is a religious tourist destination consisting of ancient temples, ancient pagodas, Longhua temple fair and Longhua evening bell. In Shanghai, there is a folk saying that "go to Longhua on March 3rd (to see peach blossoms) and go to Jing'an on April 8th (to visit the temple fair)."

Longhua Temple is located in Longhua Town, Xuhui District, Shanghai. It is said to have been built by Sun Quan of the Eastern Wu during the Three Kingdoms period to honor his mother. It has a history of more than 1,700 years and is the oldest and largest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. After several destructions and reconstructions, Longhua Temple has basically maintained the original appearance of the seven-hall system of Zen Buddhism in the Song Dynasty, and is a relatively complete group of temple buildings.
The scenery in Longhua Temple is quiet, the halls are majestic, the golden and jade are dazzling, the Zen rhythm is solemn and dignified, the halls in the temple are neat and well-planned, the existing temple was rebuilt during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty, and the main buildings are: bell tower, Drum Tower , Maitreya Hall , Heavenly King Hall , Main Hall , Three Saints Temple, etc.
There are two differences between the Buddha statues in Longhua Temple and those in other temples. First, Longhua Temple is the Maitreya temple, so there are two Maitreya statues. Heavenly King Hall The statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva is offered. Maitreya Hall The first one is the incarnation, commonly known as "Budai Monk"; the second one is Main Hall In other temples, on both sides of the main statue in the main hall are either the "Eighteen Arhats" who spread Buddhism or the "Twenty Deities" who protect Buddhism, while in the main hall of Longhua Temple, both Arhats and Deities are gathered together.
