Introduction to Meiyuan Prison: China suffered a disastrous defeat in the Opium War. British opium-trafficking ships docked in Luoxingta waters. In the name of catching pirates, the British indiscriminately arrested innocent Chinese boat people and set up their own prison. The prison was originally located in Cangqian Mountain, Fuzhou. In order to avoid detection, it was rebuilt in Maxian Mountain and was called Meiyuan Prison.
The prison cells are built with large stones and divided into two floors. The lower floor is the narrowest, darkest and dampest, and the windows are surrounded by iron bars. Especially the water prison, with an area of only 4 square meters and a height of only 2 meters, the British soaked the most resistant Chinese people in the water. Now it is open to visitors as a historical witness not to forget the national humiliation.
