Introduction to the Liaocheng Canal Exhibition Hall: Liaocheng is one of the areas that benefited from and was affected by the canal earlier. The Huitong River in the Yuan Dynasty ran through the hinterland of Liaocheng, bringing historic development opportunities to Liaocheng. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Liaocheng, Linqing and Zhangqiu became important commercial ports along the canal. "Suzhou and Hangzhou are in the south and Linzhang is in the north." Linzhang here refers to Linqing and Zhangqiu. Liaocheng is known as "the throat of the canal, the elbow and armpit of the capital", and "the most important city in the north of the Yangtze River".
