As early as the founding of the school, Yunnan University students took to the streets to support the struggles of Shanghai workers and Beijing citizens during the May 30th Movement in Shanghai in 1925 and the March 18th massacre in Beijing in 1926. During the Anti-Japanese War, Huizeyuan became an important position for domestic anti-Japanese propaganda.
On July 15, 1948, the "July 15th" patriotic student movement that shocked China and the world broke out in Huizeyuan. Huizeyuan is also a place where celebrities gather. Dong Ze, Xiong Qinglai, Li Guangtian, etc. have worked here for a long time, and Feng Youlan, Gu Jiegang, Jiang Liangfu, Liu Wendian, Fei Xiaotong, Yan Jici, etc. have taught here. After liberation, party and state leaders Peng Dehuai, Chen Yi, He Long and others visited the school and held symposiums, listened to reports and gave instructions in Huize Hospital. In 1987, Huizeyuan was announced as a provincial key cultural relic by the Yunnan Provincial Government.
