Introduction to the Anangu people: The indigenous Anangu people have lived around Uluru for tens of thousands of years. The Anangu people are one of the oldest ethnic groups in the world, and Uluru is where they gather to discuss matters. In 1994, the national park was listed as a cultural heritage, and the traditional value system of the Anangu people, the traditional owners of Uluru, was affirmed. It is now managed by Parks Australia in partnership with the Anangu people.
