China University of Mining and Technology is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is a key university under the national "211 Project" and "985 Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform Project". It is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the People's Government of Jiangsu Province and the State Administration of Work Safety. Its predecessor was Jiaozuo Road and Mine School founded in 1909, and later renamed Jiaozuo Institute of Technology. In 1950, China Institute of Mining, the first mining institution of higher learning in New China, was established in Tianjin based on Jiaozuo Institute of Technology.
