Introduction to the monument in the reserve: The monument in the Sanjiangyuan Nature Reserve is located on the bank of Tongtian River in Jiegu Town and is carved from granite. The monument is 6.621 meters high, symbolizing the 6,621-meter height of the Gradandong Snow Peak at the source of the Yangtze River; the base area is 636 square meters, symbolizing the 363,000 square kilometers of the Sanjiangyuan Reserve; the base is 4.2 meters high, symbolizing the 4,200-meter Sanjiangyuan Reserve. The average altitude of the monument is 56 meters; the monument is made of 56 pieces of granite, symbolizing the 56 ethnic groups in China; the two giant hands on the top of the monument symbolize human protection of the "Three Rivers Source". The front of the monument is engraved with the eight characters "Sanjiangyuan Nature Reserve" inscribed by former President Jiang Zemin, and the back is an inscription written by Buhe, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
