Longqing Gorge is located at the mouth of the Gucheng River northwest of Gucheng Village, 10 kilometers northeast of Yanqing County, Beijing. It was called "Gucheng Jiuqu" in ancient times. Its water originates from the eastern foothills of Haituo Mountain and flows into the Gucheng Reservoir via Yudu Mountain. The steep cliffs and dense forests on both sides of the Longqing Gorge Canyon show the majestic peaks and cliffs in the north. The limestone along the river has been eroded by water for many years, forming a strange cave landscape, which is quite similar to the landscape of the Lijiang River in southern China.
The Gucheng Reservoir in Longqing Gorge Scenic Spot was built in 1973 and took 8 years to complete.
