Scenic spot introduction:

Menghai Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion is an ancient Chinese Buddhist building. Because this Buddhist pavilion is in the shape of an octagon and stood next to the former Mengjingzhen Palace, people called it "Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion" according to its shape and location. This typical Buddhist building in Xishuangbanna not only absorbs Southeast Asian architectural styles, but also integrates the style characteristics of ancient Chinese architecture. According to legend, this pavilion was built by Buddhists to commemorate the Buddha Sakyamuni and imitated the gold silk hat "Ka Zhonghan" he wore. The eight corners of the octagonal pavilion represent the eight "maha halls" (eminent monks) around Pazhao respectively; the four doors on the pavilion contain the profound meaning of the spread of Buddhism in four directions. Historically, it was a place where chieftain Jingzhen convened meetings with chiefs from various places to discuss matters and monks to decide on important matters. Now it has become one of the tourist attractions in Menghai County, attracting many domestic tourists. Jingzhen Octagonal Pavilion is located in Jingzhen Village, Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, 14 kilometers away from the county seat.

Attractions distribution:

The Buddhist temple was built in 1063 of the Dai calendar (the 40th year of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1701)). The Bajiao Pavilion is an ancillary building in the temple - "Busu", which is an integral part of the "Walazhatan" Buddhist temple in the center of Jingzhen area. In ancient times, it was a discussion pavilion. On the 15th and 30th of each month in the Dai calendar, Buddhas in Jingzhen area gathered in the pavilion to listen to eminent monks teaching scriptures and discuss major religious activities. At the same time, it is also the place where monks are promoted to Buddha.
