Introduction to the southwest region: It includes the grasslands from the Aleutian Islands to the volcanic area of Katmai National Park. It was the first stop for Russian Americans to set foot in Alaska and can only be accessed by air and water. Two of the country's three major fishing ports are located in this area, and the Port of Kodiak is the largest port in North America. The indigenous people of this area are the Yupik Eskimos and Aleuts, who are famous for their basket weaving skills. These waters support a variety of marine life, and there are more than 230 species of birds in the Aleutian Islands.
