Introduction to the inland area: The Yukon River is the northernmost river on earth, about 2,000 miles long, running through the interior of Alaska and Canada, flowing from the ancient city of Klondike into the Bering Sea. The main indigenous people are the Athabascan Indians , famous for its woven bead jewelry. Fairbanks, Alaska's second largest city, is located in the middle of this area. It was founded during the gold rush and is a trade and transportation center. It has naval and army bases and the University of Alaska is also located here. Mount McKinley is the highest peak in North America and is surrounded by Denali National Conservation Park. There are many wild animals in the park such as caribou, flat-horned deer, Dole bighorn sheep and grizzly bears.
