Introduction to the Convent of San Bernardo: Convento San Bernardo is the most artistically valuable of the only nine remaining monasteries in the ancient city of Alcalá. It was created by Cardinal Bernardo de Sandoval, Cardinal Archbishop of Toledo, for religious activities under Bernardo's orders. The main entrance is built of bricks and has three stone doorways. There is a niche containing a statue of San Bernardo on the central stone door. Inside the monastery, the floor is as oval as the dome, and there are six adjoining chapels decorated with works by Angelo Nardi, the painter of Felipe III.
