Introduction to the Art Museum: The Art Museum used to be a palace, built around 1570, and is located in a wealthy area. Later, it was successively leased to big businessmen, dukes, etc., until after the French invasion in 1830, it was changed to the Algiers Municipal Government. By 1939, it was changed to the Artists Department. In 1961, it was officially named the People's Art Museum. In 1987, it was renamed the National Museum of Traditional Arts (Musée National des Arts et traditions populaires). Most of the collections in the museum reflect the living habits of Algerian residents.
