Introduction to the White-headed Crane: The White-headed Crane is a national first-class protected species. The largest population in Shengjin Lake in October and November 2011 is 308, accounting for 21% of the migration route. It is an important wintering place for the White-headed Crane. Bald Cranes are mainly found in the grassy beaches and agricultural fields of Shanghu Lake. Small groups are widely distributed in the south of Shanghu Lake and rarely seen in the north. Bald cranes like to eat plant roots, such as Vallisneria tubers.
