Introduction to the Antigua and Barbuda Carnival: The Antigua and Barbuda Carnival originated from the celebrations organized spontaneously by the people of Antigua and Barbuda after the abolition of slavery on August 1, 1834. It was first officially designated as the "Carnival" in 1957. The Carnival Parade marked the official start of the 10-day Carnival. The parade started from Parliament Avenue in front of the Prime Minister's Office, passed through major traffic arteries such as the Queen Elizabeth Highway and Independence Avenue, and finally arrived at the Amba Stadium in front of the Government House.
