Introduction to Saint Nicholas Chapel: Chapelle St Nicolas is located on the north side of the broken bridge. The main hall of the chapel is in the shape of a ship's bow and has a unique shape. The church is dedicated to Saint Benezet, who built the bridge.
According to legend, in ancient times, a young shepherd named Benezet received an oracle from heaven, asking him to build a bridge in Avignon. So he announced the oracle to people and raised funds to build the bridge. But people thought the young man was crazy. The young man asked the Avignon Church at that time for help. The church asked him to throw a huge stone into the Rhone River to show the oracle. Maybe it was God who helped him. It took ten strong men to lift it. The boulder was easily lifted by Beneze and thrown into the river. The miracle attracted a large amount of alms and donations for Benezet, allowing his bridge-building plan to be implemented.
