Introduction to Zhenfei Well: Located inside Zhenshun Gate at the north end of Ningshou Palace, it was originally an ordinary nameless well in the palace. Concubine Zhen was the favorite concubine of Emperor Guangxu. She was thrown into the cold palace by Empress Dowager Cixi for her fault. In 1900, the Eight-Power Allied Forces attacked Beijing. It is said that before Empress Dowager Cixi fled in panic, she ordered the eunuchs to push Concubine Zhen into a well and drown her. After returning to Luang the next year, her body was recovered and she was posthumously named a noble concubine.
