Introduction to the German Cathedral: The German Cathedral (Deutscher Dom) was designed by M. Grünberg from 1701 to 1708 and built by Giovanni Simonetti. It was originally named the New Church. From 1780 to 1785, a dome was added. The church was destroyed during World War II, but was restored and reopened to the public on October 2, 1996.
