Introduction to the Horace Statue: The Massachusetts state government is located on Beacon Hill, overlooking the Boston Common. It was built in 1798 on land once owned by John Hancock (Horace), the first elected governor of Massachusetts. He later donated the land to the federal government of Massachusetts. There is a statue of him in front of the building.
