Introduction to Bratislava Castle: Bratislava Castle is located on an 85-meter-high plateau on the bank of the Danube River. It is one of the most conspicuous buildings in the city.
The castle was first built in the 8th to 9th centuries AD. It was a military fortress when the Kingdom of Great Moravia controlled the Danube River Basin. The castle was rebuilt in the 13th century and was changed to Gothic architecture in the 15th century. Four more towers were added to the four corners. The tower was converted into a Baroque royal castle in the 18th century. During the reign of Maria Theresia of the Habsburg dynasty, the castle became a distinguished royal residence, and her son-in-law and governor-general Prince Albert There is also a large collection of art in the castle. Today these artworks are part of the collection of the Albertnum Museum in Vienna. The castle later became a Hungarian Catholic seminary and barracks, but was later destroyed by a fire in 1811.
