Introduction to Tsinghua Academy: The predecessor of Tsinghua University, "Tsinghua Academy", was originally a preparatory school for studying in the United States built with part of the "Boxer Indemnity" returned by the United States. In June 1909, the Qing government established the American Tourism Affairs Office in Beijing. From 1909 to 1911, the Office of Foreign Studies in America selected three batches of 180 students to directly study in the United States, including Mei Yiqi, Zhang Zigao, Zhao Yuanren, Hu Shi, Zhang Pengchun, Zhuang Jun, etc. Tsinghua Academy, with a strong German classical style, was built east of the Gongzi Hall. The Qing Dynasty military minister Na Tongwei wrote a plaque for it. On April 29, 1911, the first sound of reading came from the school, and the history of Tsinghua University began.
