It was discovered 5 meters underground next to the Lalin River railway bridge in Fuyu County, Jilin Province on March 1, 2005, and was able to see the light of day again. The rails that were discovered along with the old locomotive were also rusty. After more than a month of excavation, it was unearthed and transported back to Changchun on May 7 and placed in Shengli Park for people to view.
