Pingyin Garden Introduction: In order to commemorate Mr. Weng Tonghe, the emperor of the two generations in the late Qing Dynasty, the liquidambar forest was named Pingyin Garden. The buildings with white walls and black tiles facing each other in the distance are Pingyinlu where Weng Tonghe lived in seclusion in his later years. Weng Tonghe was a native of Changshu. He served as a teacher to the Tongzhi and Guangxu emperors of the Qing Dynasty, and he reached the rank of Shangshu. He supported the reform movement, and it was through him that Kang Youwei was introduced to Emperor Guangxu. Later, after the reform and reform failed, he was dismissed from his post and returned to his hometown by the decree of the Empress Dowager Cixi, where he lived at the western foot of Baoyan Bay in our Yushan Mountain. Later, with the help of his students, modern Nantong industrialist Zhang Qian and others, he built this house and lived here in seclusion in his later years. Mr. Weng named this house "Pingyinlu", which means that from now on he will keep his mouth shut and will not talk about government affairs.
