More than a hundred years ago, this was the cradle of China's first generation of ship technology talents, and ship design drawings were born here.
Today’s Shipbuilding and Painting Institute has been changed into the Mawei Shipyard’s Factory History Exhibition Hall, which displays the historical moment when China’s first steel warship “Pingyuan” was launched at Mawei Shipyard in 1887. At that time, Beiyang Except for the "Pingyuan" manufactured by Mawei Shipyard, all eight of the Navy's main warships were purchased from abroad. The successful manufacture of Pingyuan kicked off the Chinese shipbuilding industry.
