Introduction to the statue of Shen Baozhen: Shen Baozhen (1820-1879), also known as Youdan and Hanyu, was of Han nationality, a native of Houguan, Fujian (now Fuzhou), and the son-in-law of Lin Zexu. In the eleventh year of Xianfeng (1861), Zeng Guofan invited him to the Anqing camp and entrusted him with important tasks. In the 13th year of Tongzhi (1874), Japan launched a war of aggression against Taiwan on the pretext that the Ryukyu boat people drifted to Taiwan and were accidentally killed by the Gaoshan people. The Qing Dynasty sent Shen Baozhen as an imperial envoy to Taiwan to handle coastal defense. He also served as the minister of foreign affairs, planned coastal defense matters, and handled Japan's troop withdrawal negotiations. From this, Shen Baozhen began his path of advocating modernization in Taiwan.
