Introduction to Carnegie Hall: The concert hall is the first large-scale concert hall built by the American steel magnate and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1891 on 57th Street in New York City. At first the name of the hall was simply "Music Hall" (the words "Concert Hall was funded by Andrew Carnegie" above the canopy on the front of the building), and later on the board of directors of the New York Music Hall Company (the hall's original management agency). With their persuasion, Carnegie agreed to name it after him, and the hall was officially renamed Carnegie Hall in 1893.
