Introduction to Dante's Tomb: Dante (Dante Alighieri, 1265-1321), the most outstanding representative of the early Italian Renaissance, was born into a noble family in Florence. My grandfather participated in the Second Crusade and was made a knight for his military exploits. Later, his father died early, and his family became increasingly declining. But his mother attached great importance to his education, which enabled him to become a diverse scholar who made great achievements in literature, philosophy, theology, politics and other fields.
Dante’s real cemetery is located in Ravenna, hundreds of kilometers away from Florence. The tomb in front of you is just a symbol to commemorate Dante. Looking at the birth and death times of “1265-1321” on the tombstone, you can see Dante, who is squatting and looking melancholy, reminds people of the suffering and desolation the poet experienced in his rough life.
