Introduction to St. Peter's Basilica: St. Peter's Basilica (Cath. St-Pierre) is located not far to the east of Rousseau's former residence and is the commanding heights of Geneva.
St. Peter's Basilica was built in the 12th century. Due to delays in construction, it combines three styles: Romanesque, Gothic, and Greco-Roman. It is a landmark building in the old city. The archaeological museum under the church tells people about the long and intricate ancient history and is the largest archaeological museum in Europe.
The religious reformer Calvin preached here for 20 years from 1536 to 1564, so this was also the initial base of Protestantism.
