Meersburg introduction: The old castle is open to visitors and can be used for self-guided tours. The old castle on the top of the mountain is also the oldest, best-preserved and still inhabited castle in Germany. It shares the same name as the small town "Meersburg". From the 11th to the 19th century, the castle was owned by the Diocese of Frederique Constant. More than 30 bishops of Frederique Constant used the castle as their summer residence for three hundred years, until a new castle was built to the east of the old castle. In the 19th century, the Duke of Baden bought it and converted it into an art village. In addition to the museum showing the medieval style, a room where the poetess wrote and lived during her lifetime has also been opened.
