Introduction to the Perilla Garden: The perilla in Sujiawei is not grown as ordinary coriander, but has a special meaning. According to legend, Su Tianrong, the seventh-generation grandson of Su Dongpo, took a boat from Luling, Jiangxi (now Ji'an, Jiangxi) in 1312 along the Dongjiang River to Panyu to teach, and stayed overnight in Yihe on the way. That night, he dreamed that five old men directed him to go ashore to see a tall and lush perilla tree, and told him that the feng shui of this place was good, so the perilla tree grew so tall. After Su Tianrong woke up, he felt that Zisu was related to his surname, so he insisted on going ashore to take a look. He saw a big banyan tree and found that the surrounding environment was very beautiful, so he suspected that this was the place where the five old people in his dream had pointed him to settle. Later, he was promoted to the magistrate of Fushun County, Sichuan. He never forgot about this and told his descendants to settle here. It was not until his fourth-generation grandson Su Xiuhong was appointed as an inspector in Jingshan, Dongguan (today's Chashan Town, Dongguan) that his dream came true. This perilla garden expresses the memory and admiration of the Sujiawei people for their ancestors.
