Introduction to painted murals: The huge painted murals on the east and west gables of the main hall are the most outstanding highlights of Dayu Temple. They are 4.2 meters long and 2.8 meters high respectively. On the lower right side of the west mural is "Guo Ziyi riding alone to see the Uighur map". It tells that when the two ethnic minorities, Tubo and Uighur, prepared to join forces to besiege Jingyang, Guo Ziyi rode alone to see the Uighur leader and persuaded him to join forces with the Tang Dynasty and attack Tubo. Understand the story of the siege of Jingyang; the "banquet picture" painted on the upper left shows the scene of Guo Ziyi's banquet with officials after he conquered the world. It is grand in scale and warm in atmosphere. These two scenes are cleverly combined in one painting and appear natural. The mural on the east side captures four scenes from "Journey to the West" and depicts the story of Sun Wukong subduing the Red Boy. The composition is concise and vivid. According to research, these two giant murals were painted in the Ming Dynasty and have a history of five to six hundred years. Their pigments and techniques are unparalleled. According to reports, even if modern paints are used for painting, they cannot be preserved for such a long time.
